The Process Engineer is responsible for developing processes to assist in the transition of products from product development and R&D to a automotive grade manufacturable state at high yield. In order to meet that goal, the production/process engineer will develop deep expertise and experience in processes required for assembly and test of Luminar products which contain bulk optics, optical fiber, lasers, electronics and mechanical systems. The process engineer will introduce and validate new processes, will work with the design team to modify designs to help to meet the requirements in touch-time, yield, reliability, certification and qualification. This individual will deliver a lean manufacturing process, PFMEA, Control Plan, and Standard work. Additionally, the Process Engineer will be responsible for supporting the commissioning of the equipment and performing all steps necessary to prepare the equipment for use in process development and production.
Responsibilities
- Support the product development, R&D and Advanced Manufacturing teams with process development and DOE (design of experiments)
- Design, document and improve manufacturing processes and procedures
- Develop and automate production assembly and test stations
- Perform new equipment, processes, and testing validation
- Validate processes to meet automotive manufacturing requirement
- Develop and analysis KPIs, Cps, DOE and GR&R
- Collaborate with the design team and provide design feedback for manufacturability, serviceability, and reliability
- Design tools and apply third party equipment to support production
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience in manufacturing process development work in optics, micro-mechanics, electronics and/or micro-electronics assembly and integration
- Good communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
- Ability to solve problems through fact-based decision-making processes
- Experiences or courses in Lean and/or Six sigma a plus
- Experiences or courses in optics/photonics a plus
- Experiences or courses in electronics or software automation a plus
- Proficiency in SolidWorks Design Software a plus
- Proficiency in FEA and analysis by simulation a plus
- Automotive experience or work in other highly regulated work environment a plus
Education/Training
- BS degree in Physics, Optics/Photonics, Electronics, Mechanical Engineering or related technical field
