Job Overview
We are looking for a dynamic, detail-oriented Inventory Control Manager to lead inventory integrity across our fast-paced, multi-client third-party logistics (3PL) operations. In this pivotal role, you aren’t just managing numbers—you are building the foundation of trust that allows us to fulfill orders perfectly and bill our clients accurately. This is a working-manager role across two of our sites. You will set the high standard, run the daily cadence, and empower your team to execute. You are a leader who coaches from the front, but you aren’t afraid to step onto the floor and get your hands dirty when complex exceptions demand it.
What You Will Do
- Own the Floor: Drive end-to-end inventory accuracy, location integrity, and packaging data across a multi-client fulfillment footprint.
- Lead and Delegate: Establish standard operating procedures (SOPs), run the daily inventory cadence, and build a high-performing team.
- Solve Complex Problems: Act as the ultimate escalation point for inventory exceptions, using proactive problem-solving to resolve discrepancies quickly.
- Protect the Bottom Line: Ensure all on-hand quantities and client data are 100% trustworthy to support flawless order fulfillment and precise client billing.
- Support Client Success: Partner closely with multiple clients to understand their unique needs, optimize their stock levels, and ensure operational efficiency.
Key Accountabilities
Inventory Accuracy & Integrity
- Own the cycle count program end to end: routine, threshold-triggered, and client-specific counts. Ensure counts are scheduled, executed, and reconciled on cadence.
- Reconcile unallocated lines so allocatable inventory is maximized and orders aren't held by phantom availability.
- Manage physical inventory (PI) events, including scoping and quoting count programs for client billing.
- Maintain location integrity through periodic location pulls and audits so pick and reserve locations reflect reality.
Exception & Fulfillment Support
- Resolve shorted-order adjustments and cycle count requests, triaging expedite vs. routine priority.
- Clear stuck pack- and pick-station states to keep fulfillment flowing.
- Own putback and damage disposition — return to sellable stock, quarantine, or write-off — with proper documentation.
Packaging & Materials
- Maintain packaging requirements, packaging sheets, and requirement updates to each client's spec; run periodic packaging audits.
- Coordinate materials supply and waste logistics — corrugate trailer swaps and dumpster swaps — with vendors and site operations.
Client Service & Communication
- Manage the inventory-control ticket queue (Zendesk or equivalent) to defined response and resolution standards.
- Own threshold-count notifications and other client-facing inventory communications.
- Represent inventory control in daily operational meetings (e.g., mid-morning and early-afternoon standups).
Reporting & Cadence
- Produce and distribute the end-of-shift report and other recurring inventory reporting.
- Track and report accuracy, adjustment volume, and count completion against plan.
Team Leadership & Delegation
- Delegate the workstreams above to inventory control specialists and leads; build coverage schedules so no workstream goes dark on any shift.
- Author and maintain SOPs, train the team, and hold it accountable to accuracy and timeliness standards.
Qualifications
Required
- 3+ years in inventory control within a 3PL, multi-client fulfillment, or high-volume distribution environment; 1+ year leading a team.
- Hands-on experience with a WMS (e.g., HighJump/Körber or comparable).
- Strong Excel; comfort reading operational data (SQL or BI tooling a plus).
- Demonstrated ownership of cycle count / physical inventory programs and inventory reconciliation.
Preferred
- Client-facing communication and ticketing experience (Zendesk or similar).
- Packaging and materials management familiarity.
- Process improvement / industrial engineering exposure.
